Oh Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas Tree

One of the better parts of Christmas, other than the food is the traditional Christmas Tree. It is a great time for the family to create a ritual and enjoy some time together. Many people just go for the plastic tree, but there is nothing […]

Outdoor Film Fun

Outdoor Film Fun

If you are looking for something to do in the evening over the summer months, you can not go past the very cosmopolitan Outdoor Cinema at Cameo Cinema in Belgrave.

Cameo is an independently run business that presents a generous selection of films all year round. They have been known to give screen time to smaller local productions as well as the usual Hollywood fare. The cinemas have a very nostalgic feel are fairly priced and offer great service, comfort and atmosphere.

As the weather improves in the Dandenongs, Cameo hold an outdoor theatre that presents a wildly popular array of older films and new releases. This years calendar includes gems such as 1980’s Labyrinth and The Goonies, cult classics like A Night At The Roxbury, or even family favourite Disney’s The Lion King.  On top of these options the season includes a sing-along screening of Australia’s favourite black comedy Muriel’s Wedding.

In between this inspired selection will be screenings of the new StarWars film, The Last Jedi, and several other new releases which will no doubt draw a generous crowd.

With very reasonable ticket prices and cheap tickets on Tuesdays, you can come and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Hills while watching one of your favourite films. Patrons can lounge on picnic blankets or deck chairs.

Should the temperamental Victorian weather make it impossible to go ahead with the screening session holders are given tickets to an alternate screening.

What a fabulous way to spend a summer evening with your friends, family and the greater Hills community.

The Best Pub In The Hills

The Best Pub In The Hills

The Micawber Tavern located on Monbulk Road between Belgrave and Kallista, is my favorite all time pub. It is a real traditional pub with not a Pokie machine in sight, and is a favorite drinking hole and meeting place in the Dandenong Ranges for locals […]

Marketing for the Soul

Marketing for the Soul

The Dandenong Ranges and surrounding areas are prolific with different types of markets that operate each and every weekend, both Saturdays and Sundays somewhere in the hills, allowing local residents, day trippers and tourists access to a diverse array of art, entertainment, local produce and community spirit.

Some markets act specifically as a show case for Visual Artists and crafts people, while many others only cater for produce, including locally made cheese and wine, fruits and vegetables, meat, and any thing else you can imagine in a culinary mind or hungry stomach. It is an opportunity not to be missed by the local populace to get their hands on super fresh well priced food, a vast improvement on the over priced and questionable produce provided at the large supermarket chains. Many of the markets held across the Ranges offer a multitude of goods, vast selections of arts and crafts, finely made and original jewelry, food, plants and flowers, live music and other forms of family friendly entertainment.

There are three excellent and well patronised markets coming up this weekend specifically running on the 2nd Saturday or Sunday of each month.
