Last Saturday morning the Dandenong Ranges community lost a tenacious spirit with the passing of local Emerald identity Mr David Greenaway.
David was an unequivocally kind man. He never once failed to share his generous personality with his family, friends or the greater community. As founder of Gemco Players in the early 80’s, it was his vision and ongoing drive that kept this organisation thriving over the years. The Gem Theatre proudly stands in Emerald as a badge of honor to his persistence and hard work.
I was fortunate enough to know him and to see him a week before his passing. He was dynamic and interesting as ever, as he greeted me with a twinkle in his eye. The effect his life has had on those around him is immeasurable.
A service will be held in his memory this coming Monday 26th March, 3pm, at St Marks Church Emerald. The dress code is designated as ‘quirky” just like the man himself. This will be followed by a celebration of his life with an Open Stage at The Gem Theatre, Kilvington Drive, Emerald.
Davids greatest unfulfilled wish was to restore his home ‘Little Muddy’.
Instead of flowers you can make a donation to help this happen. https://www.gofundme.com/davidgreenaway
My love goes out to his son Mat and family, and the whole community for this sad loss which will continue to be felt in perpetuity.
